LEXIS/NEXIS (Academic Universe)

  • Contains mostly full-text information in the areas of federal and state law, legal news and law reviews, finance, politics, government, taxation, medicine, health, company information, business, market news and general news.
  • Among the over 5000 publications included are magazines, journals, newspapers, wire services, federal & state statutes, federal & state court opinions, directories and SEC filings.

U.S. Legal is the legal part of this database.

Contains the following sources:

  • Supreme Court cases
  • U.S. Court of Appeals
  • Federal & State cases
  • District court cases

Court Cases include:

  • Prior History
  • Case Summary - gives procedural posture, overview, outcome, core terms
  • Headnotes – gives other legal issues that the case deals with
  • Opinions
  • Shepardize – shows if it is still good law (over-ruled or reversed), gives citing decisions, gives citations where cases are cited, has complete history of the case and how it is utilized
